CASTROVILLE TX.--MUSIC , FOOD, DRINK AND CRAFTS will be the fare at the St. Louis Day Celebration on Sunday, August 21.

THE CENTURY-AND-A-QUARTER-OLD PICNIC, celebrating its 129th birthday this year, will again take place at Koenig Park (the old Wernette's Garden) in historic Castroville, on U.S. 90, just 15 minutes west of Sea World of Texas and Six Flags/Fiesta Texas in San Antonio.  Twenty-five years ago, the famed church festival was presented an Official Historical Marker by The Texas Historical Commission which traces the history, growth and significance of the century-and-a-quarter old picnic. The marker is located in front of St.  Louis Church grounds.

DELICIOUS ALSATIAN-STYLE SAUSAGE AND BARBECUE BEEF will be served under a huge dining pavilion with all the usual trimmings for only $7.00 a plate, from 11:00 till about 2:00 p.m.  Plates to go are also available, either at the park or at a drive-through located at Braden Keller Center near St. Louis Church.  Advance meal tickets are available at the regular ticket price.  Send check or money order to St. Louis Day Celebration, 610 Madrid, Castroville, TX  78009.

A SPECIAL 9:00 A.M. MASS IN HISTORIC ST. LOUIS CATHOLIC CHURCH, will set the picnic day activities in motion.  Retired Archbishop Gustavo Garcia-Siller will celebrate the Mass and the famed internationally-known Liederkranz Choir of San Antonio will sing the Mass.  Father Jim Conway is pastor of the St. Louis Parish family.

THE 36th ANNUAL ST. LOUIS DAY HORSESHOE PITCHING TOURNAMENT will pit the skills of past picnic men's and women's tourney champs against those of numerous challengers, battling for the 2011 championship trophies, while the 13th Annual St. Louis Downs Futurity Race will crown its champions. Collectors can attend the afternoon silent auction being held inside spacious AIR CONDITIONED Koenig Park Hall.  There will be free live entertainment on two stages, featuring many song and dance groups.  The Big Band Era San Antonio Community Band will host a 2 hour concert. On the river-side stage the local Nathan Mathis Band will make its second St. Louis Day appearance and  will be followed by featured band Buster Jiggs. The all new St. Louis Day Biergarten Tent will feature accordionists, classic country, blue grass fiddlers, "oompah", and much more. Mariachis will stroll the grounds throughout the day. Bingo, craft booths, entertainment and amusement booths, rides and games for young and old, as well as numerous food and drink stands will be scattered throughout the pecan tree-shaded park.

PLENTY OF FREE PARKING is available at and near the park, and free shuttle buses will travel frequently between the church square and the park throughout picnic day.

THE ANNUAL PICNIC DRAWINGS, one featuring several extra-large $1200 to $1500 hand-stitched quilts, and the main "Pot of Gold" drawing, featuring a $3,000 pre-paid VISA check card and thirty-plus fabulous gift certificates and merchandise prizes, ring down the curtain on the fun-packed day.  Visit www.saintlouisday.com for more information.
